Speakers
Mark Johnson
Priest in charge at St Tom's, Newtown, Wellington
Originally from Minneapolis in the USA, Mark’s ministry background was in leading a missions base for Steiger International and accidentally planting a church (The Salvage Yard) amongst atheist kids, punks, artists, musicians, and hippies.
Since 2015, Mark and his wife Kirsty and their two boys have lived in Newtown, Wellington where they help lead St Tom’s Anglican Church, an eclectic Jesus centred community that is deeply engaged in local ministry. They also travel in their house bus during the summer and school holidays with the St Tom’s on Wheels team where they share God’s love with people outside the church and run discipleship schools for local churches.

Erik Schilperoort
Care Pastor at Bethlehem Baptist Church
American-born Erik Schilperoort is the Care Pastor at Bethlehem Baptist
Church in Tauranga, a vibrant faith community of over 3,000 people. A devoted follower of Jesus since August 1979, Erik has been married to a Kiwi for 39 years and is a proud father and grandfather. His journey has spanned three distinct careers: seven years with YWAM in Hawaii, New Zealand, and Calcutta, nine years in IT, including enterprise IT in the USA, and over 18 years pastoring in two New Zealand Baptist churches.
After completing his BAppTheol and DipPL at Carey Baptist Theological College, Erik found inspiration in Pete Scazzero’s Emotionally Healthy Spirituality, which set him on an intentional path of contemplative spirituality. His journey has led him to monasteries and retreat centers across the USA and NZ, including an eight-day silent retreat with Ignatian Spirituality NZ. Erik’s deepest desire is to walk closely with God, like Enoch, until one day he, too, is taken to Glory.
